Tim Petrillo wanted Rooftop to be more than its view. Its location is prime—in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, surrounded by the city’s skyline—but Petrillo didn’t want to rest on the scenic backdrop. If he were to put up curtains around the outdoor bar, would there still be a line snaking around the corner? “That’s how we approached it,” says Petrillo, co-founder and CEO of The Restaurant People. “When you take the curtains down, [the view] becomes an added benefit.”

This new sky oasis boasts sweeping views of the downtown skyline, courtesy of the owners of the trendy S3, Boatyard and YOLO.
Inviting landscaping has transformed the seventh floor of the One West Las Olas building to a chic, alfresco garden lounge with fire pits, faux grass and vine-covered columns.
“We’re constantly trying to stay ahead of the curve and keep a pulse on the market to create new concepts,” Tim Petrillo says.
Seasonal bites are provided by the group’s other debut venture, TRP Taste, a 24-seat venue on the first floor for events such as pop-up dinners with guest chefs.
“They are two completely different concepts delivering new nightlife and culinary experiences,” Petrillo says.
The Rooftop menu changes every couple of months, but you may find Buffalo chicken empanadas ($8), duck spring rolls ($11), lobster-crab fritters ($12), tequila-cured salmon ($13) and rock shrimp ceviche ($13).
Ginger-apple mule is a best-selling cocktail ($12), and an old fashioned offers choices of the kind of spirit, syrup and bitters, plus a smoked option ($11-$35).
DJs spin from Thursday through Sunday. Hours are from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., except for Sunday brunch from noon to 10 p.m. The lounge is closed Mondays.
